for tar/gz, cp, mv, ln, ln -s, chmod, diff
try http://www.cd.chalmers.se/~hch/filerunner.html
for mount
try http://mountapp.sourceforge.net/
for cron
try http://www.arquired.es/users/aldelgado/proy/gcrontab/
(the `g’ is for `gtk’ not `gnome’)
for configure/make
if you’re not a compile from source
kinda guy try an RPM, or DEB. Dependant, of course, upon
your distro of choice
try http://distro.conectiva.com.br/projetos/46/
(Synaptic is based on the WINGs toolkit and, supports both
RPM and Debian systems, after recompilation.) or
try http://www.gmsys.com/xrpm.html
for at
try http://www.arquired.es/users/aldelgado/proy/gato/
There’s also a timer app for window maker
that executes a command (possibly string of ‘em) after a
countdown or at a specified time, that may be what you
probably want in this particular instance.
try wmtimer
http://freshmeat.net/projects/wmtimer/?topic_id=876
The tools you’re looking for already exist. They’re just
not branded “WindowMaker ONLY” like KDE and Gnome have done,
by requiring their own codebase for `their’ apps to run.
Try searching Freshmeat or the Dockapp Warehouse for
X11/GNU/GTK apps or dockapps. With a little diligence, you
will find whatever it is that you’re looking for.
